About our presenters

City Outreach

City Outreach serves the homeless population in Lansing. They offer a wide range of services to the homeless and working poor, including free laundry, rides, overflow housing from other agencies, and meals. They feed 75-100 people per sitting, 5 days a week. They also run a free clothing store and offer space to other outreach organizations in the community that need a place to meet. In addition to their outreach to the homeless population, they offer free shoveling and lawn care for the disabled and shut in populations in Lansing. This is a work readiness program for the homeless population, to offer them a chance to serve their community and earn some money at the same time.

The Street Team

The Street Team goes out into the community to connect with homeless, street and at-risk youth. They provide youth with hygiene products, clothing, blankets, and referrals to services. If a youth wants to go into shelter or receive services, the Street Team transports them to the Kevin J. Moody Youth Home or another shelter.

Macaroni Grant is this Thursday!

This Thursday, December 21st, is a special event we’re calling Macaroni Grant!

Potluck and Prizes

Instead of our usual soup fiesta, we are doing a macaroni and desserts potluck. Bring your favorite macaroni and cheese or dessert to share and who knows, you may win a prize! We’re giving a little something to the most delicious macaroni dish, most delicious dessert, and the most unique across both dishes.

Bring a Stocking Stuffer or Two or Three

Instead of presenters, we’ll have three stockings for everyone to stuff. One each for:

  1. Ingham County Animal Control Outreach Center

Thursdays are for soup and giving thanks!

Join us on November 16 for a special SoupGrant. In addition to amazing Thanksgiving-inspired soups, we are also asking guests to bring something to donate. The donation could be for either presenter—pet or hygiene products—or food items that Terry can use in future soups.

Speaking of soup, here’s what we’ll have on tap this month:

  • Tom turkey and biscuit
  • Pilgrims favorite squash soup
  • Side dish potato and broccoli cheese soup
  • Thanksgiving surprise soup

Every month we invite two different groups to share what they are doing in and around Lansing. Our presenters this month are  Ingham County Animal Control Outreach Center and Empathy and Equity!

About our presenters

Ingham County Animal Control Outreach Center assists Ingham County pet owners in need. Their services include a food bank for pets, low-cost spay and neuter vouchers for dogs and cats, vaccination, licensing, and microchip clinics, and more.

Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met, but there is a barrier to getting hygiene products. Empathy and Equity works alongside community members to respond to those needs by building and placing small centers for hygiene product distribution.

Join us at The Runway for our August SoupGrant!

It’s our birthday (we’re four years old!) and this year we’re celebrating in style. Our next SoupGrant is on August 17, and it’s NOT at our usual location! Instead, we’ll be at The Runway in downtown Lansing.

Win a prize!

Because it’s our birthday, we’re doing something special. We’re giving away two prizes based on one of the following criteria:

  1. Make a statement. Wear some wild colors, add some unusual flair, put on that ugly sweater, or dress up in your evening finest. Whatever you do, be bold!
  2. Bring a dessert and the recipe. We’re all about sharing and spreading the love, so what better way to celebrate than with desserts to pass around?

Pick one for a chance to win, or do both and double your chances!

About our presenters

We’re bringing back three presenters from the past year to help us celebrate and one will also win the night’s soup grant.

DreamWorld Studios provides underserved youth with professional instruction in fine and performing arts. They reach out to the community with fine arts college prep, open mic night fundraisers, and even morning dance parties!

Greater Michigan MDA researches cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases, cares for those affected, and offers support and services to families across greater Michigan.

Tri-County Office on Aging connects people who need help to service providers, volunteers, donors, businesses and governments throughout Eaton, Clinton and Ingham Counties. Many of their services are provided at little or no cost.
