Catching up with our December #SOUP winner

December’s winner, Rachel, recently sent us an update on her project to help provide low-income Lansing residents with health supplements and vitamins that aren’t covered by health insurance.

We’re very excited to share with you that Rachel has been able to purchase multi-vitamins for three individuals in need. Moreover, she’s using some of her micro-grant to purchase Ensure for an elderly woman who is having difficulty with solid foods due to a prescription she’s currently taking.

Rachel is also in the process of working with Central Pharmacy on Mt. Hope and Pennsylvania to see if they will offer discounts on vitamins for some of the folks she works with. Central Pharmacy, by the way, is a local pharmacy that just opened in November of 2013.

Finally, Rachel writes, “I have opened up the funding for the grant to the other community health workers that I work with in the event that they come across a case where an individual is in need of vitamins for health related reasons and cannot otherwise afford them.”

Rachel, we certainly wish you all the best in your continued work and we look forward to hearing more from you over the coming months!
